ADHD & Executive Function Coaching in Colorado: When You Know What to Do but Can’t Get Started

Written by Clarissa Stratton: Owner of Gather & Grow Therapy

If you are anything like me, you have bought endless calendars, planners, notebooks, and organizers, each one filled with the hope that this will finally be the one.

Somehow, this new tool will make it possible to do all the things that have always felt so hard.

For a few days, I love it. I carefully write everything down, organize my schedule, and think, “Yes—this is going to work.” Then, before long, it ends up in what I can only describe as my doom pile of abandoned notebooks.

Sometimes, instead of buying another planner, I used to scroll through TikTok looking for the tip, secret code, or productivity hack that will finally help me stop procrastinating and focus. Maybe, like me, you have tried for years to do the things that worked for someone else, only to discover that it does not quite fit your life at all.

It turns out that, when it comes to our minds, very few tools are truly one-size-fits-all.

Most people don't really know how to find help for this, but that is where personal individualized coaching can be so valuable. You have one-on-one support from someone whose role is to help you understand what is making something feel impossible and work with you to find a more attainable way forward. Bonus points that they actually have the depth of knowledge, creativity and experience to create systems and supports to work for you---instead of against you.

A lot of people begin coaching believing they may be beyond help. They have already tried the planners, apps, routines, reminders, tips, and generalized advice. When none of it sticks, it is easy to assume that nothing will make life easier.

But a strategy that was not designed for your brain, responsibilities, energy, or environment cannot tell you what is possible for you. When I was growing up my dad had a favorite quote he would often say (among many). It went: "If you always do what you have always done, you will always get--what you've always got." I think that applies so well here to taking the jump to invest in yourself. If you like me sometimes find that aspects of life are hard, or just aren't working---maybe its time to take the jump and give something new a try.

Here's why individual coaching is so great: Tailored support can look at your strengths, natural rhythms, existing systems, and the barriers that keep getting in the way. You are not handed another generic list of things you “should” be doing. You have someone beside you to help you test ideas, adjust them, and figure out what works in your actual life.

You also do not have to wait until life becomes unbearable to ask for support.

If you are reading this and recognizing yourself, follow that little bit of momentum. Learn more about coaching at Gather & Grow, or schedule a free conversation with our team. You do not have to know exactly what kind of support you need. We can talk through what is happening and help you find a starting point. We offer in person support in our Broomfield, CO office, and telehealth/online support through-out Colorado.

Let us help you find a starting point. You’ve kept the planner industry in business long enough!
